KC Pet Project

KC Pet Project is a 501c3, nonprofit charitable organization operating the Kansas City, Missouri Animal Shelter. We care for over 10,000+ animals a year and work collaboratively with Animal Control and other animal welfare organizations to increase the number of homeless pets adopted, and focus on lifesaving programs promoting pet retention, identification, lost pet reunions, and pet ownership education throughout the community.

Volunteers are the heart of KC Pet Project and without their time, talents, and resources we would not be able to save the lives of over 10,000 animals each year. Whether you have a free day on the weekend or an occasional hour after work, there is a place for you at KC Pet Project. We have 12 different locations located across the metro area where you are able to volunteer, and hours are completely flexible! Assist with various tasks such as dog walking, cat socializing, data entry, veterinary services, customer service, sanitation/operational tasks, and many more!
