The Urban Neighborhood Initiative is a community development corporation that serves residents in the urban core of Kansas City. We believe in building communities with purpose on purpose. We do this by doing the following:
- Build quality mixed-income housing
- Serve as a connection to supportive services for families in our communities
- We provide STEAM-based educational experiences for youth in our communities
- We provide space for community organizations to meet and connect
Urban Neighborhood Initiative promotes positive child and youth development opportunities for school-age children and youth. One way we do this is by partnering with schools to provide opportunities for youth to excel.
UNI is in need of volunteers to help at Lincoln Prep Middle School, our partner school. We will meet with youth on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 to 4:45 each week starting October 31. Volunteering may include homework help, help with studying, helping with assigned projects, etc. All volunteers will work with youth grades 6-8, ideally once a quarter.
