This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in social work or the medial field-- i.e. pre-med, pre-nursing, social work students, etc. Your service will be done in-clinic and can count as clinic experience! Nevertheless, anyone who is interested is welcome! See service description below.
Children’s Mercy has a long legacy of caring for children and their families. Since its founding in 1897, Children’s Mercy has existed to help meet a community in need. Health is often thought to be all clinical and hospital based. However, research has shown that health does not start in our clinics but does start at home with things like having enough food to eat, a safe place to sleep and community support. This volunteer position helps address patients’ social determinants of health. The Health Connect volunteer position was created to support providers and patients during primary care clinic visits. Health Connects will navigate patients towards community-based organizations that can support their non-medical needs including food, clothing, utilities, and social support. Volunteers will need to successfully complete the Children's Mercy volunteer application and orientation before being trained for this position. We look forward to meeting you!
