EVENT: WILD ABOUT HARRY is the annual fundraising gala of the Truman Library Institute, the non-profit partner of the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum. Now in its 26th year, WILD ABOUT HARRY has raised more than $9 million in support of nationally acclaimed education and outreach programs that foster civic learning and engagement. These take place throughout the year at the Truman Presidential Library and Museum as well as in the Kansas City region, nationally, and internationally.
This festive event includes a gourmet dinner, entertainment and the bestowing of the Harry S. Truman Legacy of Leadership Award, an event highlight. The gala provides invaluable support to the mission that mattered most to President Truman after leaving the White House – establishing his presidential library as a “Classroom for Democracy” where young people, especially, would be inspired and prepared to lead lives of purpose and service.
VOLUNTEER ROLE: Volunteers initially work from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM checking in guests on laptop computers. You will then get to enjoy dinner and the program before helping tear down the event. The shift ends shortly after the program ends, around 10:00 PM. This is a fun way to earn service hours while enjoying a delicious meal and entertainment and knowing you are helping to further President Truman's commitment to civic learning and engagement.
PROGRAM: This year's program features Mary McCormick and Melissa Fitzgerald, cast members of the hit TV series The West Wing, discussing their book What’s Next: A Backstage Pass to The West Wing, Its Cast and Crew, and Its Enduring Legacy of Service, and former Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius as the honoree.
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: April 11
