Volunteer: Community Outreach Volunteer

The Community Outreach Volunteer will provide support to the Health Insurance Navigator team. They will provide information to patients and the community on KC CARE services and programs. These outreach events and activities may include attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings, and more to help connect the community with KC CARE services for both external and internal community outreach purposes. 

Assist Health Insurance Navigator team at community outreach events by providing and engaging the community in information and services provided at KC CARE Health Center.May assist with stocking, organizing, and preparing outreach supplies, set up and tear down of outreach events, and transportation of outreach materials toMay assist with updating or creating patient’s profiles in electronic medical health record system and data entry.Collaborate with community organizations and agencies to enhance health services and resources available to patients and the community.Performs other duties/special projects as assigned.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Willing and able to work in different environments including health center locations and surrounding Kansas City outreach locations.

· Must present self in a professional manner.

Volunteer: Medical Translator

This position is responsible for the accurate interpretation via face-to-face health care information to and from various language-speaking patients / patient families and health care providers.

Volunteer interpreters are integral to the day to day running KC CARE Health Center. They are the bridge between our providers and the patient and must be able to comfortably interpret medical terminology such as patient symptoms and doctors' diagnoses and treatment instructions.

Shifts Availability:

Monday- Friday

8:30am-12:30pm

1:00am-5:00pm

Translator will also translate voice messages from Spanish to English via our vonage communication app from Patients


Accurately interpret medical and health care information/instructions from physicians, nurses, or other health care staff to non-English speaking patients/families in a consecutive or simultaneous mode in Health Care and department's established standards

Considerable knowledge of both English and other languages. Skill in translating spoken words Requires the ability to speak in another language and English to convey or exchange information. Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, etc. in English and other languages Requires the ability to write using standard conventions in English and other languages

Stationed in the waiting room at KC CARE Broadway location to greet patients, allow patients access to pharmacy or restroom area. Assist patients with completion of registration information on our tablets. Liaison from front to back related to patient wait times and providing updates or status. Provide bottled water to patients. Providing the “first-face” of the health center by greeting patients/ staff in a friendly manner. Can assist with other administration duties if requested. 

Excellent people skills. Ability to communicate effectively with our patients, staff, and other volunteers. Work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Volunteer: Facilities Associate

The uniqueness of the Facilities Associate position is the varied, unpredictable and random day-to-day duties and responsibilities. This position’s duties are dictated by the needs of the facility. The facility maintenance support’s responsibility is to assist the facilities department to ensure that KC CARE remains aesthetically pleasing to patients, visitors, and staff.

Grounds keeping which includes mowing, weed eating, trash and limb removal.
Supply Distribution once the order is received, making sure of the correctness of the order and making sure the items are given to the correct staff person.
Assisting with maintenance and plumbing project
Other duties as assigned.

Shifts: 9am-5pm or 9am-12pm or 1pm-5pm

High School Diploma preferred or be at least 17 years old.
Ability to move heavy objects such as furniture.
Ability to perform light carpentry or be instructed on how to perform such tasks.
Ability to perform basic plumbing or be instructed on how to perform such tasks.
Ability to operate small hand tools or be instructed on how to use them in a safe manner.
