Volunteer: Operation Breakthrough is Looking for Classroom Volunteers!Operation Breakthrough is a non-profit serving under-resourced youth and families in the Kansas City area. We provide educational services to 700+ students daily, ages range from 6 weeks up to 18 years old. 1 in 5 of our kids are considered homeless, 80% will witness 1 or more acts of violence by the age of 5. Operation Breakthrough is their safe place. OB will be enrolling around 200 new kids this summer and could use some extra help! We are particularly in need of math and literacy volunteer tutors for our K-8th graders and early childhood education volunteers to assist teachers with activities/routines for students ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Other available volunteer opportunities include assisting our teachers with coding/robotics, studio arts, graphic design, gardening, life sciences, computer technology, and more. Details and requirements for each volunteer opportunity are listed below. Early Classroom Volunteer (Must volunteer once per week for at least 12 weeks.): Assist teachers in daily classroom activities and routines with children. Shifts are Monday - Friday, 9 - 12 p.m. or 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Tutor (Must volunteer for at least 12 shifts. Minimum two shifts, per month.): Help students enhance their math and literacy skills. Shifts are Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Classroom Coding Help: Help Smart Lab students work on their Coding skills (this is different than Coding Club). Shifts are Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.Robotics Volunteer (Must volunteer for one season: June-Dec. Minimum one shift, per month.): No experience needed, an expert will be there to show you the way. Students learn to build and program robots and practice competitive missions. Shifts are on Saturdays, one time a month from 8:30 a.m. - Noon. Monthly dates TBD. Coding Club Volunteer (Must volunteer for one season: April-Dec. Minimum one shift, per month.): No experience needed, an expert will be there to show you the way. Help teach coding in a variety of different ways for competition. Shifts are every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Schedule a Tour or Guest Speaker: Set up a time to tour our facility located at 31st and Troost. Or invite an employee to speak at your school, club meeting, business, etc. about our organization and how to get involved.
