Every day people are forced from their home due to disasters. Single and multi-family home fires account for 90% of disaster responses for the American Red Cross. Compassionate and committed Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers help those families affected.

Respond by phone to families affected by home fires, flooding or other local disasters to provide resources, comfort and hope.

Be the beacon of hope to families who are likely having the worst day of their lives.

What’s Needed

18 years or older with a valid United States driver’s license Training provided both online courses and shadow virtually with experienced volunteers​​​​​​​ Computer with internet and a smart phone On call shifts available

Be a life saver and transport life-saving blood products from the American Red Cross Biomed testing facility at 8053 Bond Street, Lenexa, KS  66214 using American Red Cross vans.

Deliver life-saving blood products to patients in need using small Red Cross vans.

Requirements

18 years or older with a valid United States driver’s license Safe driving record Able to lift boxes of up to 45 pounds a short distance Training provided both online courses and hands on with experienced volunteers​​​​​​​ Flexible shifts available

Volunteer: Help People in the Recovery Process After Being Affected by a Disaster (Usually Home Fires)

Do you like to talk with people on the phone and find yourself trying to solve problems when you know someone needs help? Then be part of the team that works to provide assistance to families and individuals after being affected by a disaster.

Work with the families to develop recovery plans, accessing the full range of community and government resources, advocacy, and problem-solving. Help these families bridge the gap between what they can accomplish on their own and what is necessary to allow them to move through the recovery process.

Primary responsibilities:

· Provide recovery support to disaster clients
· Conduct initial client interviews by phone
· Assess qualifications for direct client assistance
· Follow-up casework to guide the client through the recovery process
· Provide information or referrals to other community resources

Requirements

· 18 years or older
· Valid United States driver’s license
· Training provided both online courses and hands-on with experienced volunteers
· Virtual opportunity – a computer with internet service and a phone needed
