Address Belize's affordable housing crisis through this solidarity-immersion trip, during which we will group in fellowship with our hosts!  Also spend time at a daycare facility with children from families in need.

Grow in fellowship with senior citizens in Michigan's Upper Peninsula by cutting, splitting, delivering, and stacking firewood that will sustain them through the long winter months.  Plan on enjoying a cup of coffee with them and listening to their stories about the olden days!  Previous wood-cutting experience is not required.  Trip details:

Volunteer at our largest event of the year, the Girls on the Run 5K! Cheer on our 2,000+ girls as they complete the Girls on the Run 5k!

Be a coach for the Girls on the Run Spring Season, March 9th - May 9th, 2026. We will match you up with a school that works well for your schedule. Teams meet twice a week for 1.5 hours for 8 weeks and then all girls in our program participate in the Girls on the Run 5K on May 9th! Help empower and mentor girls across Kansas City!

Only 23% of third-graders in KC public and charter schools are reading at grade level!  Address this crisis head-on by volunteering to sort books for Lead to Read KC, KC's preeminent children's literacy program.  Once sorted, the books will be used by reading mentors in one-on-one reading sessions with the kids.

TurnStyles Thrift Stores helps fund our 25+ programs in the 21 counties of Northeast Kansas. It plays a crucial role in serving our community and is completely volunteer driven. Volunteers play a critical role in store operations and help provide a dignified shopping experience, under the supervision of the store manager.

Volunteer duties include; processing donations, tagging donations, putting items on the sales floor, and maintaining the organization of the store.

This is a great opportunity for students and groups. Depending on need, core volunteers may also serve with our eBay and antique booth teams.

Tutors work with our children one-on-one, helping them with homework or other academic material that we provide. No prior teaching experience is needed. The job of the tutor is not difficult but is very important. Tutors provide academic support, serve as good role models, and offer encouragement to students who truly need it. Learning Club will provide all training for working with children.We have tutoring options after school at our six sites, Monday through Friday, and during the school day at local elementary schools.

CDD’s PALS University/Day Habilitation program is looking for volunteers to lead or assist with meaningful, individualized activities for the people we support. This is a flexible opportunity for volunteers to engage in a variety of enriching experiences that reflect participants' interests and goals.

Examples of Volunteer Activities: mentoring or life skills coaching, leading or assisting with classroom-style lessons, hosting coffee conversations or discussion groups, organizing or attending group outings (e.g., bowling, concerts, supporting music, arts, or meal prep sessions, sharing hobbies or personal expertise (crafts, cooking, tech, sports, etc.)

Time Commitment: 2–6 hours per shift—based on your availability and interests. Requirements: All volunteers must complete an orientation with the Community Engagement Specialist, pass a background check, and complete required trainings (Gentle Teaching and Abuse/Neglect).

CDD (Center for Developmentally Disabled), in partnership with Befriending Networks, offers a meaningful volunteer opportunity focused on building one-on-one connections. As a Befriender, you’ll be matched with an individual we support based on shared interests and location, fostering a friendship over at least six months. Befrienders connect with their match at least twice a month—once in person and once through a call, email, or letter.

Activities are flexible and decided together. Research shows befriending improves mental health, social skills, and communication for both participants. Volunteers must complete an orientation, background check, and required trainings. A matchmaking survey is also part of the onboarding process.

A recent study by the Afterschool Alliance reports that parents face many barriers to enrolling their children in after-school programs. Top factors for parents not enrolling their students in these programs include expense (57%), students not having safe transportation to/from the program (52%), and after-school program locations are inconvenient (51%). Be a part of a team dedicated to eliminating these barriers.

Phoenix Family's HIKE (Help Instill the Key to Education) programs are located in apartment communities throughout Kansas City and are free of charge for the families in our communities. Students in K-8th grade can come from 4:30pm-6:00pm (3:00pm-5:00pm during summer) for a meal and engaging structured activities. For an hour and a half a week we are looking for volunteers to come and have fun while making a significant impact on the lives of our students and families. Volunteers will work one-on-one with students to improve their literacy skills. We'll provide all the training and support you need. Community LINC provides transitional housing to homeless families at 40th and Troost.

Community LINC's Children's Program seeks to break the cycles of homelessness and poverty in the children we house. With lessons around kindergarten readiness, critical thinking, reading + math, and more, we always need extra assistance to make the program successful! 

Community LINC is seeking volunteers in its Children's Program! Children's Program volunteers work with program staff to help facilitate lessons, prep/serve meals, provide one-on-one attention to the kids, and provide general supervision. It's a great way to serve kids in need, and alot of fun too!

Pete's Garden is recovering more high quality surplus food than ever before. We need volunteers to help us portion it into take-and-heat containers for families in need. The meals we pack go home with parents who pick up children from the HeadStart program, or to other nearby agency partners like Jewish Family Services, Boys and Girls Club, and more.
Volunteers help in our commercial kitchen at 13th and Broadway with varying midday shifts. We recover high quality food from the New Theatre Restaurant, all of the professional sports teams, KC Chiefs Players' home game dinners, and many corporate dining programs. At Blessings Abound Thrift store on 13637 Washington Street, Monday - Saturday from 8am to 6pm.  Part of the proceeds from Blessings Abound support Catholic Charities.  At the Thrift Store, you can sort donated items, repair or improve donations, assist customers, merchandise donated items on sales floor, clean store and serve as cashier.

Job Duties: This is a volunteer receptionist position at our NEW Rockhurst office, assisting clients as they come through the doors looking for social services. This position requires basic data entry and computer skills to look up information and input case data. Feel free to do homework at the desk when you are not actively needed!

The Shifts are: Monday through Thursday, 8:30am - 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 4:30pm.

Help our Employment Specialist assist clients in creating resumes, job interview preparation, job search help and advice for job seekers.

Catholic Charities moved into our permanent home at our newly renovated location at 8001 Longview Rd., Kansas City, MO, in the fall of 2024! We have made great progress but need assistance with further renovations and the basic upkeep of our building and the grounds.  Depending on your skill set and interests, we have plenty of opportunities to assist with lawnmowing, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, special design and automotive needs.

You can help film/photograph events, help give out Marketing collateral and keep it up to date, or some data entry.

Help the volunteer team do their best work to provide the agency with meaningful opportunities for the community to volunteer. You may find yourself doing a variety of tasks like data entry, assisting with events, recruiting volunteers and joining the team to creatively think of new ways to support those who need it the most!

Some of the most basic needs of our clients are food and hygiene products, which are far too often not available. So, round up your friends, neighbors, church families and community members (or you can do it on your own) to help support those who need it the most. Create a contest at school or work to make it fun! Large or small, each donation will go to someone in need. This is a great project for individuals who have limited time to share at the agency but want to support our mission! Here are some examples of items needed for clients. Create your kit and drop it off at Catholic Charities and let us know how many hours you devoted to it.

· Senior Care Kits - lip balm, hand soap/sanitizer, bathing wipes, nail clippers, toothbrush/toothpaste, incontinence products, hairbrush/comb, non-slip nail clippers, Moisturizing lotion (especially for dry skin), pill organizer,

· Men's Care Kits - men’s deodorant, razor and shaving cream, aftershave, lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb or hairbrush, nail clippers and file, body wash or soap, shampoo and conditioner.

· Women’s Care Kits - deodorant, razor and shaving cream, aftershave, lotion, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb or hairbrush, nail clippers and file, body wash or soap, shampoo and conditioner, feminine wipes or no-rinse body wipes, adult sanitary pads or liners.

· Baby Care Kits - Digital thermometer, nasal aspirator (bulb syringe), baby nail clippers or file, gas relief drops, baby-safe sunscreen (6 months and older), teething gel or rings, first aid kit (bandages, baby-safe antiseptic), soft baby brush (for cradle cap), diapers, wipes (unscented or hypoallergenic), diaper rash cream (e.g., zinc oxide), baby lotion, baby shampoo and body wash, soft washcloths and towels, hooded towel, formula (if not breastfeeding), bottle brush, pacifiers and bibs (cloth and silicone).

· Birthday Care Kits - Cake mix, jar of applesauce, candles or cake decorations, frosting, streamers, balloons, cards, wrapping paper, party hats, stickers. Everyone deserves to have a good birthday!

The volunteer shifts are Tuesdays &Thursdays 7:30-9am, 9am-12pm and 12:30pm-4pm, Wednesdays 1-8pm and the First Saturday of the month 8am -noon. Located at 8001 Longview Road, KCMO. You can do things like unload trucks, bag groceries, stock shelves and help clients shop and carry their food to their cars. Training will be needed.

We partner with the Lions Club to be able to give eyeglasses to those in need. Join the Lions Club with sorting and cleaning and distributing eyeglasses during prep sessions. Supporting the clinicians during the clinics where clients come and get the clients eyes tested and fitted for glasses!

Orientation Leaders and Coordinators provide an invaluable service to Rockhurst University for the hours they dedicate to ensuring that our new students are welcome!

Operation Breakthrough is a non-profit serving under-resourced youth and families in the Kansas City area. We provide educational services to 700+ students daily, ages range from 6 weeks up to 18 years old. 1 in 5 of our kids are considered homeless, 80% will witness 1 or more acts of violence by the age of 5. Operation Breakthrough is their safe place. 

OB will be enrolling around 200 new kids this summer and could use some extra help! We are particularly in need of math and literacy volunteer tutors for our K-8th graders and early childhood education volunteers to assist teachers with activities/routines for students ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Other available volunteer opportunities include assisting our teachers with coding/robotics, studio arts, graphic design, gardening, life sciences, computer technology, and more.

Details and requirements for each volunteer opportunity are listed below.

Early Classroom Volunteer (Must volunteer once per week for at least 12 weeks.): Assist teachers in daily classroom activities and routines with children. Shifts are Monday - Friday, 9 - 12 p.m. or 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Tutor (Must volunteer for at least 12 shifts. Minimum two shifts, per month.): Help students enhance their math and literacy skills. Shifts are Monday - Friday, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

Robotics Volunteer (Must volunteer for one season: June-Dec. Minimum one shift, per month.): No experience needed, an expert will be there to show you the way. Students learn to build and program robots and practice competitive missions. Shifts are on Saturdays, one time a month from 8:30 a.m. - Noon. Monthly dates TBD.

Coding Club Volunteer (Must volunteer for one season: April-Dec. Minimum one shift, per month.): No experience needed, an expert will be there to show you the way. Help teach coding in a variety of different ways for competition. Shifts are every 3rd Wednesday of the month from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m.

1.      Helping to teach any hobby to our BH clients in our residential programs. We want to help clients find fun ways to fill their time. Some ideas may include: painting, jewelry making, sewing, repairing clothes or small projects, needle punching, embroidery, cross stich, model building, gardening (empty garden beds and tools), playing an instrument (drums, ukulele, guitar, DJ’ing, rapping), dancing, leading a book club, Lego building, fixing/repairing electronics, candle/soap making, wood burning, small woodworking (e.g. shelves, bird houses), paper crafts like origami or cardboard crafting, painting rocks, etc.

2.      Beautification yard work at a new group home opening at the end of June/early July. Backyard has overgrown in a few areas and could really use some sprucing up. It could be as little or as big as someone wanted to do, as we do have some large bushes that need to be taken out, too. Any help will be appreciated!

Phoenix Family is seeking patient, friendly, and tech-savvy volunteers to assist seniors in learning how to use technology in our new computer lab at a local senior affordable housing community. This role is essential in helping older adults feel more confident in navigating various digital tools, from basic computer functions to using the internet, email, navigating assistive technology, and social media.

Volunteers will provide hands-on guidance and one-on-one support during technology workshops and open lab hours. We will provide all the training you need. Sign up to help for a couple of hours each week or to offer classes occasionally as your availability allows!

Qualifications:

·      Strong understanding of basic computer operations, internet navigation, email, and social media platforms.

·      Patience and ability to explain technical concepts in simple, non-technical terms.

The Front Porch Alliance partners with First Lego League, an local elementary schools to robotics teams Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 4:30-6pm after school. Join our team of coaching staff as we support students grow in their interpersonal skills as well as gain new skills in STEAM initiatives. 

As a coach, you will do a combination of assisting with small groups during robotics practices. Practices include team building activities for students, research around a community issue (connected to the FLL Theme); building and coding missions for the competition and community engagement. Coaches will be a supportive role model for youth; supporting them as they research, problem solve, create and code. Front Porch will provide the technical skills, curriculum and resources. 

The Community Outreach Volunteer will provide support to the Health Insurance Navigator team. They will provide information to patients and the community on KC CARE services and programs. These outreach events and activities may include attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings, and more to help connect the community with KC CARE services for both external and internal community outreach purposes.

Every day Monday - Friday KC Shepherd's Center delivers 175 hot meals to homebound older adults. Often times it is the only person or smile they see in a day.

The Patient Comfort program originally began providing clothing to our homeless patients. Over the years, the program has evolved to serve any of our patients in need. Ascend Hospice is looking for individuals to provide comfort to patients.  There are many activities you can do with a patient, along with just being a positive presence in each patient's life.

Our immediate need is to move last years left over leaves to another compost location by wheel barrow. This will make room for the leaves that are about to fall. We need to do this to stock leaves so we can make our Johnson-Su bioreactors that help soils store more carbon, slowing global warming.

Soil Microbe/Plant Partnership Can Sequester Carbon and Restore the Hydrologic cycle to Slow Global Warming

The soil is not a chemistry set. Soil is a community of living organisms that use the food provided by plants that gather the sun’s energy to photosynthesize CO2 and H2O into sugar. Plants pump the sugar out through the roots. After benefiting from this sugar; mycorrhizal fungi grow, go through their life cycle; and break down into glomalin, which glues mineral particles together forming the soil carbon sponge. Healthy living soil is full of spaces that hold water, extend photosynthesis during drought and absorb water during rain events. Soil microbes feed plants the minerals they need in the right amounts when the plants need them. 

Adding fertilizers in most cases frustrates the natural symbiotic relationship between microbe and plant. Addition of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides (poisons) kill or hamper the soil microbes, which keeps them from helping grow healthy plants and sequestering carbon. The prairies and the forests were grown without chemicals. Chemicals are not needed except in small amounts to restore damaged soils. ***The point is to restore and keep the plant microbial balance going.

We keep the process going by growing different plants in community, together. Each plant type has its own diverse community of microbes. These diverse microbes cooperate to support the whole plant community during stressful events keeping all healthy. Multi species crops have been shown to sequester more carbon and produce healthier plants. In the cities where we don’t have cows or buffalo to inoculate the soil from time to time we grow fungal rich compost. One method is the Johnson-Su Bioreactor which turns leaves and other yard materials into rich inoculant for you and all your neighbors. David Johnson says it mimics a buffalo or cow’s gut. Microbes are too small for us to see. They do not have a press agent so we have to be their news outlets. Every time we mention plant diversity we should mention the microbial diversity that support the plants that are visible. Every time we mention flooding our drouth we should say how the soil carbon sponge built and maintained by microbes is working to extend photosyntheses which is synonymous with carbon sequestration. 

We need to stress that this plant/microbe partnership is the most effective and least expensive way of sequestering carbon. There is no way that you could count the number of microbes waiting for us to alter our agricultural and soil practices to let them work and and add exponentially to their numbers. 

We need to immediately explore ways of keeping the soil covered with photosynthesizing plants so that they aren’t part of the world wide heat island effect that absorbs sunlight turning it into heat and emitting it onto the atmosphere adding to global warming. Soil regenerative practices have even been shown to reduce desertification.

The soil carbon sponge world wide will hold vast amounts of water which will restore a powerful climate cooling effect. Water evaporates from plants and goes up into the atmosphere where it cools and returns to earth as rain. As it cools the heat is released and some of it exits  into space.

Through the restorative microbial processes described the plants will become much healthier and will pass on the nutritional value to all of nature including humans. The system works and helps our gut be healthier.

Making healthy soil is not a chemical process. It is a biological process. The microbes in the soil, in the plant and in our gut are intelligent. They can sense a quorum in their numbers. The microbes can sense what needs to be done, when to do it, and then they can act together in unison to deliver to to the plants in the soil and from our gut to our bloodstream the minerals and nutrients our bodies need. We are incapable of doing this. So let’s just let the most numerous intelligent workforce on earth do what they are itching to do and repair the climate regulatory system.

Humans are intelligent enough to understand our limitations and know to get out of the way and stop interfering in the life process. We are not the gardeners on this planet. We are here to aid the real gardeners. Life knows what to do. Let it. 

The Urban Neighborhood Initiative is a community development corporation that serves residents in the urban core of Kansas City. We believe in building communities with purpose on purpose. We do this by doing the following:

Urban Neighborhood Initiative promotes positive child and youth development opportunities for school-age children and youth. One way we do this is by partnering with schools to provide opportunities for youth to excel. 

UNI is in need of volunteers to help at Lincoln Prep Middle School, our partner school. We will meet with youth on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45 to 4:45 each week starting October 31. Volunteering may include homework help, help with studying, helping with assigned projects, etc. All volunteers will work with youth grades 6-8, ideally once a quarter.

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City, we keep families with sick children close to each other and the care and resources they need. Families spend long days coming and going from hospital and often have little time or energy to prepare a meal. The gift of an individually packaged meal gives the parents and children staying at RMHC-KC the ability to quickly grab and enjoy freshly prepared food at any time!

Gather a group of coworkers, family members, friends or other community members and volunteer in our Houses at our downtown campus or our Family Rooms inside of Children’s Mercy Hospital and Overland Park Regional Medical Center to support the families we serve. Our ten year old community garden serves as a beautiful focal point in our neighborhood, Squier Park.  Located at 38th and Virginia, the garden hosts 13 veggie beds, an herb patch, orchard with fruit trees and berries, and a resident-designed and built pavilion.  Most of our gardeners work full time, and keeping up with weeding and other related tasks is a challenge.  Would love to have some extra energetic hands to help!

Do you want to learn about the world and form relationships with people from all walks of life while digging into society’s most challenging social health issues? Volunteer to become a Social Health Navigator at Truman Medical Center and assist the community in a new and exciting way. The Social Health Ambassador will function as on-site support to the social determinants of health program by serving as direct support to patients in screening for, understanding, and making appropriate referrals for basic social health needs (e.g., food transportation, medication assistance.)

When you volunteer as a JET Express driver, you are giving an older adult their independence and freedom. Use your own vehicle to give rides to older adults, helping them stay active, independent, and connected to their community. Choose the rides you want online through Ride Scheduler, and give based on your schedule. 

Programs are Monday -Thursday, but you only are expected to serve one day a week. Mondays are our biggest need. Programs coincide with school year.

The Hope Center is a faith-based youth and community development organization serving in KC's urban east side. S.A.Y. Yes! is our children'ts program. As a volunteer you will assist with the after school children's program. This involves helping kids with crafts, activities, dance, singing, reading, and learning good behaviors and cultural history. It can also include setup, takedown and cleaning up after kids as needed.

We are also flexible with time frame, ex. if you cannot make it here till 4pm,  that's ok.

The Communications intern will be responsible for capturing program and community stories and turning them into text which can then be utilized in marketing materials, grants, appeals, etc.

We need a volunteer to help our special events team solicit silent auction items. This work can be done on your own time by physically going into retail and service stores asking for donations, emailing contacts for item donations, or completing website forms asking for item donations.

The uniqueness of the Facilities Associate position is the varied, unpredictable and random day-to-day duties and responsibilities. This position’s duties are dictated by the needs of the facility. The facility maintenance support’s responsibility is to assist the facilities department to ensure that KC CARE remains aesthetically pleasing to patients, visitors, and staff.

Grounds keeping which includes mowing, weed eating, trash and limb removal.
Supply Distribution once the order is received, making sure of the correctness of the order and making sure the items are given to the correct staff person.
Assisting with maintenance and plumbing project
Other duties as assigned.

Shifts: 9am-5pm or 9am-12pm or 1pm-5pm

High School Diploma preferred or be at least 17 years old.
Ability to move heavy objects such as furniture.
Ability to perform light carpentry or be instructed on how to perform such tasks.
Ability to perform basic plumbing or be instructed on how to perform such tasks.
Ability to operate small hand tools or be instructed on how to use them in a safe manner.
