Join Student Senate on October 16th as they answer the Jesuits' call to Care for our Common Home and address environmental racism by cleaning trash in and around Brush Creek.  Either jump into a canoe to clean trash from the creek or walk along the banks to pick up junk.  Free t-shirt, food, and prizes (awarded to biggest piece of trash, weirdest piece of trash, etc.). 

Schedule:

- 2:15pm: depart Arrupe Circle

- 2:30pm: arrive Mary Williams-Neal Community Center (3801 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd, KC, MO 64130)

- 2:30 - 4:30pm: clean trash

- 4:30pm - 5:30pm: reflection, food, celebration

English Outreach Tutors provide English learning opportunities to refugee adults who are unable to attend traditional English classes due to work schedules, transportation barriers, or other life commitments. This volunteer role offers flexible scheduling and can take place in a variety of agreed-upon locations. Tutors are supported through training and resources to help create a simple and effective learning plan for their student

The volunteer's main responsibility is to ensure water and/or Gatorade is supplied for athletes at the aid station. Volunteers will need to fill cups and hand them out to the athletes. Also, please ensure cups are picked up off ground during the race. There will be a trashcan provided. This Aid Station will service the Half Marathon athletes twice, 10K athletes twice and 5K athletes once. In addition to providing aid as athletes approach you will also instruct the athletes to turnaround to continue along the run course.

This event is all about bringing neighbors together around one long table to share a meal. We will celebrate community and build connections while experiencing family-friendly activities, games, music, and a harvest dinner for approximately 150-200 members of our FPA families, supporters, volunteers, and community partners.

Join forces with Heartland Tree Alliance to plant 10 trees in our neighborhood!  Urban trees provide beneficial shade to combat the dangerous heat island effect that is increasing in cities as global warming takes over.  Urban trees also manage stormwater and increase mental health.  The tulips we plant will bloom in the spring to spread joy!  This planting will take place on Friday, November 20th.  Meet in the Rock Room at 2pm.  Previous tree and tulip-planting experience is not required.  Wear grubby clothes and boots or shoes (no sandals).

The Marketing Intern will report to the HALO COO and Senior Operations Manager and will be a part of all marketing efforts for the HALO headquarters and HALO branches. Timeframe is one semester to one year. This Intern will be involved in developing HALO collateral, brochures, sales materials, communicating/managing volunteers on specific projects, brand development, Website updates, PowerPoint presentations, social media posts, video production, e-marketing, event planning and strategic planning.

Candidates for this Internship must exhibit strong organizational and communication skills. Also be able to work well in a team atmosphere, highly motivated, enjoy brainstorming, and take the initiative on all projects. 

Needs to be efficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint. Knowledge in WordPress and Canva is a plus. Training provided on all other programs.

HALO invites volunteers to assist high school aged youth with homework help at our Kansas City Learning Center. By providing academic support and encouragement, you help youth achieve their goals and build meaningful connections.

Join us as a Course Monitor on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in the Nelson-Atkins Museum area! This is a great opportunity to support your community, cheer on runners, and be part of one of Kansas City’s signature event. Groups of 10 or more can earn $20 per volunteer as a fundraising opportunity.

As a Course Monitor, you’ll play a vital role in keeping athletes safe by helping ensure the streets remain clear of vehicles and spectators. The course will be closed to vehicles, but if a vehicle does approach, please politely instruct the driver to turn around and take an alternate route.

Course Monitor Requirements & Details

You must be 16 or older, or accompanied by an adult, to serve in this role.

Your location will be assigned approximately one week before the race and shared via email and Google Maps.

Start and end times will be staggered based on your location. If you’re assigned to the back half of the route, your shift will begin later than 6:30 a.m. If you’re on the front half, your shift will end before 1:30 p.m.

Police officers will be stationed at all major intersections and can provide additional support if needed.

Most importantly, cheer on the athletes! Offer encouraging words, keep their spirits high, and help make sure they stay on the right course. Your energy and support can make a meaningful difference on race day.

NEW! University Health has launched Arts in Healthcare. Through a growing number of opportunities, patients and staff alike will have the opportunity to experience the Arts as a tool to positive health outcomes. The Art Cart is an opportunity for patients and family members experiencing an inpatient stay to choose and complete an art activity of their choice. Volunteers are needed to distribute art activities from the cart and assist patients with simple directions for completion.  There is a two hour shift minimum on Thursdays, between the hours of 9am-3pm.

The Front Porch Alliance partners with LINC to host exploratory robotics programs at local elementary schools on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays from 4:30-6pm. Join our team of coaching staff for any of the days above, as we support students grow in their interpersonal skills as well as gain new skills in STEAM initiatives. 

As a coach, you will do a combination of assisting with small groups during robotics practices. Practices include team building activities for students, as well as lessons focused on designing, building and coding missions with their Spike Prime Robot. Coaches will be a supportive role model for youth; supporting them as they research, problem solve, create and code. Front Porch will provide the technical skills, curriculum and resources.

We pair volunteers with students (grades K-6) at a local elementary school for just 1 hour a week, for one on one or small group tutoring in Math and Reading.

CDD (Center for Developmentally Disabled), in partnership with Befriending Networks, offers a meaningful volunteer opportunity focused on building one-on-one connections. Befrienders connect with their match at least twice a month—once in person and once through a call, email, or letter.

Activities are flexible and decided together. Research shows befriending improves mental health, social skills, and communication for both participants. Volunteers must complete an orientation, background check, and required trainings. A matchmaking survey is also part of the onboarding process.

Learning Club will provide all training for working with children.We have tutoring options after school at our six sites, Monday through Friday, and during the school day at local elementary schools.

CDD’s PALS University/Day Habilitation program is looking for volunteers to lead or assist with meaningful, individualized activities for the people we support. This is a flexible opportunity for volunteers to engage in a variety of enriching experiences that reflect participants' interests and goals.

Top factors for parents not enrolling their students in these programs include expense (57%), students not having safe transportation to/from the program (52%), and after-school program locations are inconvenient (51%). Be a part of a team dedicated to eliminating these barriers.

Phoenix Family's HIKE (Help Instill the Key to Education) programs are located in apartment communities throughout Kansas City and are free of charge for the families in our communities. Students in K-8th grade can come from 4:30pm-6:00pm (3:00pm-5:00pm during summer) for a meal and engaging structured activities. For an hour and a half a week we are looking for volunteers to come and have fun while making a significant impact on the lives of our students and families. Volunteers will work one-on-one with students to improve their literacy skills. We'll provide all the training and support you need. Community LINC provides transitional housing to homeless families at 40th and Troost.

Community LINC's Children's Program seeks to break the cycles of homelessness and poverty in the children we house. With lessons around kindergarten readiness, critical thinking, reading + math, and more, we always need extra assistance to make the program successful!

Pete's Garden is recovering more high quality surplus food than ever before. We need volunteers to help us portion it into take-and-heat containers for families in need. The meals we pack go home with parents who pick up children from the HeadStart program, or to other nearby agency partners like Jewish Family Services, Boys and Girls Club, and more.
Volunteers help in our commercial kitchen at 13th and Broadway with varying midday shifts. Catholic Charities moved into our permanent home at our newly renovated location at 8001 Longview Rd., Kansas City, MO, in the fall of 2024! We have made great progress but need assistance with further renovations and the basic upkeep of our building and the grounds.  Depending on your skill set and interests, we have plenty of opportunities to assist with lawnmowing, landscaping, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, special design and automotive needs.

You can help film/photograph events, help give out Marketing collateral and keep it up to date, or some data entry.

Some of the most basic needs of our clients are food and hygiene products, which are far too often not available. This is a great project for individuals who have limited time to share at the agency but want to support our mission! Here are some examples of items needed for clients. You can do things like unload trucks, bag groceries, stock shelves and help clients shop and carry their food to their cars. Training will be needed.

We partner with the Lions Club to be able to give eyeglasses to those in need. Join the Lions Club with sorting and cleaning and distributing eyeglasses during prep sessions. Supporting the clinicians during the clinics where clients come and get the clients eyes tested and fitted for glasses!

Operation Breakthrough is a non-profit serving under-resourced youth and families in the Kansas City area. We provide educational services to 700+ students daily, ages range from 6 weeks up to 18 years old. 1 in 5 of our kids are considered homeless, 80% will witness 1 or more acts of violence by the age of 5. Operation Breakthrough is their safe place. 

OB will be enrolling around 200 new kids this summer and could use some extra help! We are particularly in need of math and literacy volunteer tutors for our K-8th graders and early childhood education volunteers to assist teachers with activities/routines for students ages 6 weeks to 5 years old.

Other available volunteer opportunities include assisting our teachers with coding/robotics, studio arts, graphic design, gardening, life sciences, computer technology, and more.

1.      Helping to teach any hobby to our BH clients in our residential programs. We want to help clients find fun ways to fill their time. Some ideas may include: painting, jewelry making, sewing, repairing clothes or small projects, needle punching, embroidery, cross stich, model building, gardening (empty garden beds and tools), playing an instrument (drums, ukulele, guitar, DJ’ing, rapping), dancing, leading a book club, Lego building, fixing/repairing electronics, candle/soap making, wood burning, small woodworking (e.g. shelves, bird houses), paper crafts like origami or cardboard crafting, painting rocks, etc.

2.      Beautification yard work at a new group home opening at the end of June/early July. Backyard has overgrown in a few areas and could really use some sprucing up. It could be as little or as big as someone wanted to do, as we do have some large bushes that need to be taken out, too. Any help will be appreciated!

Phoenix Family is seeking patient, friendly, and tech-savvy volunteers to assist seniors in learning how to use technology in our new computer lab at a local senior affordable housing community. This role is essential in helping older adults feel more confident in navigating various digital tools, from basic computer functions to using the internet, email, navigating assistive technology, and social media.

The Community Outreach Volunteer will provide support to the Health Insurance Navigator team. They will provide information to patients and the community on KC CARE services and programs. These outreach events and activities may include attending fairs and community events, tabling booths, networking meetings, and more to help connect the community with KC CARE services for both external and internal community outreach purposes.

Every day Monday - Friday KC Shepherd's Center delivers 175 hot meals to homebound older adults. Often times it is the only person or smile they see in a day.
