Volunteer Opportunities From: Engage Rockhurst

We are so excited that this year’s Garmin Olathe Marathon is returning on Saturday, April 25, 2025. For a successful race, we need a large number of course monitors and would love for you to join us.

You and/or your group will receive free T-shirts for the 5+ hour shift as well as service hours for school, work or church. For groups of 10 or more, school, church and civic groups can earn $10 per volunteer for their group. This is a great opportunity to volunteer, support the Olathe community, and showcase our midwestern hospitality; and we’d love your help.

CDD (Center for Developmentally Disabled), in partnership with Befriending Networks, offers a meaningful volunteer opportunity focused on building one-on-one connections. As a Befriender, you’ll be matched with an individual we support based on shared interests and location, fostering a friendship over at least six months. Befrienders connect with their match at least twice a month—once in person and once through a call, email, or letter.

Activities are flexible and decided together. Research shows befriending improves mental health, social skills, and communication for both participants. Volunteers must complete an orientation, background check, and required trainings. A matchmaking survey is also part of the onboarding process.

CDD’s PALS University/Day Habilitation program is looking for volunteers to lead or assist with meaningful, individualized activities for the people we support. This is a flexible opportunity for volunteers to engage in a variety of enriching experiences that reflect participants' interests and goals.

Examples of Volunteer Activities: mentoring or life skills coaching, leading or assisting with classroom-style lessons, hosting coffee conversations or discussion groups, organizing or attending group outings (e.g., bowling, concerts, supporting music, arts, or meal prep sessions, sharing hobbies or personal expertise (crafts, cooking, tech, sports, etc.)

Time Commitment: 2–6 hours per shift—based on your availability and interests. Requirements: All volunteers must complete an orientation with the Community Engagement Specialist, pass a background check, and complete required trainings (Gentle Teaching and Abuse/Neglect).

Our maintenance teams welcome groups and individuals to assist with maintenance, landscaping, painting, and other projects in our homes and buildings across the metro including our campus at 2135 Manor Way Liberty, MO 64068.
