We are looking for volunteers who can sew and provide items on a month long initiative that would provide care packages for at least 50 breast cancer patients (we are hoping to be able to do more than that) and appreciate anyone who is able make and provide the following:

·        We would love to be able to provide 2 drain bags (one to use when for a shower and one stays dry for after a shower)

·        One comfort pillow (assist with sleeping post mastectomy)

·        One seatbelt pillow/cover per care package

Meet with patients to determine their individual needs and goals. Assist with the screening survey. When indicated, help with forms to request resources. Maintain inventory of resources. Take part in program planning and implementation. Bending and lifting up to 50 pounds. Sanitizing counters. Fill and prepare food bags. Data entry. Can only take one volunteer a day due to space. Hours are 9am-5pm and can be divided between volunteers but only one volunteer if able to assist the whole day.

Our pet program is back and we need certified Pet Handlers and pets.

Volunteer must be:

·        Promote UH’s mission for pet services and share its purpose

·        Assist pet handler during visits such as pet bathroom accidents and/or emergencies and notifying Volunteer Services and EVS immediately

·        Carry Care Bag on visits at all times

·        Allow Pet Handler and pet to conduct purpose of visit with patients

1.      Helping to teach any hobby to our BH clients in our residential programs. We want to help clients find fun ways to fill their time. Some ideas may include: painting, jewelry making, sewing, repairing clothes or small projects, needle punching, embroidery, cross stich, model building, gardening (empty garden beds and tools), playing an instrument (drums, ukulele, guitar, DJ’ing, rapping), dancing, leading a book club, Lego building, fixing/repairing electronics, candle/soap making, wood burning, small woodworking (e.g. shelves, bird houses), paper crafts like origami or cardboard crafting, painting rocks, etc.

2.      Beautification yard work at a new group home opening at the end of June/early July. Backyard has overgrown in a few areas and could really use some sprucing up. It could be as little or as big as someone wanted to do, as we do have some large bushes that need to be taken out, too. Any help will be appreciated!

Gross dissection of various organs. Microscopic evaluation of benign and malignant conditions. Autopsies. In addition, volunteers have the opportunity to rotate in other areas in the lab including Blood Bank, Microbiology and Clinical Chemistry. Serious inquiries only.

Calling all seamstresses, knitters and those who love to crochet. We gladly accept donations of baby hats, and blankets for our infants and lap blankets, quilts and tote bags for our long-term care residents. The totes are for wheelchairs. We have specifications for baby blankets.

Love retail and interested in working as a cashier? Need five volunteers to help in our downtown gift shop. Must be able to stand, stoop and bend for hours. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. Retrieve newspapers at the main lobby front doors. Get cart from storage to disburse to areas and divide stack and display at main lobby and long-term care entrance. Wipe down desk and phones with purple wipes. Check wheelchairs and ensure they are locked. Do a walkthrough of the front and back area of main lobby to ensure it is neat and straight. The Patient Comfort program originally began providing clothing to our homeless patients. Over the years, the program has evolved to serve any of our patients in need. The clothing is distributed when patients are discharged from the hospital. We kindly ask that donations are NEW and in its original packaging.

Volunteer to become a Social Health Navigator at Truman Medical Center and assist the community in a new and exciting way. The Social Health Ambassador will function as on-site support to the social determinants of health program by serving as direct support to patients in screening for, understanding, and making appropriate referrals for basic social health needs (e.g., food transportation, medication assistance.)
